Brexit: What Now? (Part 1)

With Brexit on everyone’s lips, and the deadline of 29 March fast approaching, we look if there is any consensus on the key issues for people already in the UK as well as those planning to move there…

The government officials time after time claim that no matter the Brexit form, EU citizens already in the UK will be allowed to remain and apply for settled status if they plan to stay in the country past 30 June 2021 deadline. The application should be very straightforward – proving one’s identity, residence in the UK, and not having prior criminal convictions.

For EU citizens planning to move to the UK, a lot of questions remain unanswered. Many argue that a points system is going to be introduced, similar to the visa system currently in use with highly-skilled overseas workers. However, some key figures, including mayor of London Sadiq Khan, firmly state that London needs much looser regulations to supply work force to the myriad of businesses in the capital.

For overseas migrants already in the UK, not many changes are predicted. However, with less Europeans migrating to the UK, and a more complex immigration process, overseas migrants automatically become more competitive in the UK job market.

For overseas workers looking to relocate to the UK, arrangements are being made to simplify the visa application process and to remove the cap on skilled migrants – meaning, working and living in the UK should become easier than ever before.

Many updates are still to follow – with huge stakes for everyone who sees their future in the United Kingdom. We will be publishing more when significant decisions are revealed.
