Tier 5 YM Visa & Options beyond your stay - Tier 2 General

What is the Tier 5 YM Visa

The Tier 5 visa is one of the most popular routes for people aged between 18 and 30, from qualifying countries (New Zealand/Australia/Canada/Taiwan etc), to get to live and work in the UK. However, as this visa is only valid for two years, and is not renewable, those wishing to stay longer will need to switch visas. We shall look at Tier 2 General Sponsorship below.

Benefits of the Tier 5 Visa for Businesses

For companies in the UK, the Tier 5 visa allows them to directly benefit from the influx migration to the country. Companies that want to bring in workers using the Tier 5 visa must first apply through the UK Visas and Immigration Office. Tier 5 is similar to the Tier 2 visa in that both are intended for use to bring in skilled workers. However, Tier 5 enables companies to bring in those that do not meet the requirements of the Tier 2 visa on a temporary basis, as well as utilize the visa for short-term projects.

The Tier 5 visa gives UK companies the chance to see how they can benefit from temporary employment practices. This practice allows companies to take advantage of global mobility and give them the chance to evaluate new talent without making long-term commitments. Additionally, this practice lets companies lets companies attract a younger workforce by giving them the flexibility they are looking for from employers

Designed to foster international connections, this visa provides ample opportunities for UK businesses looking to diversify their talent pool and get an international perspective for their business. For individuals, the Tier 5 visa allows them to experience the unique culture and business landscape of the UK on a temporary basis.

Transferring to Tier 2 General

Tier 1 General is no longer an option, therefore Australians, New Zealanders etc are finding Tier 2 General (formerly the old UK Work Permit) the best way to remain in the UK long term.

Tier 2 General is an employer sponsored visa with an initial approval term of 3 years, however the visa may be extended for a further 2 years (route to Indefinite leave to remain – ILR). It is not possible to ‘switch’ in country from Tier 5 to Tier 2 therefore a fresh application must be submitted back home however approval times are short (1-2 weeks in total) so you could be back before you know it.

If you are an experienced IT professional please contact us to find out about moving to Tier 2 General. We work with many Tier 2 licensed employers and consultancies who may be prepared, where required, to sponsor a Tier 2 General Visa. Consult@mavisas.co.uk
