UK offers the most AI jobs in Europe

New data reveals that the UK generates more artificial intelligence jobs than any other European nation, and more than half of them are outside of London. Robotic process automation company UiPath has analysed job listings from start-up hubs around the world.

China and the US, unsurprisingly, continue to lead the way in the AI industry. Both countries offer the highest number of jobs in both AI and ML, with 12,113 and 7,465 respectively. However, the UK has the fourth highest number of jobs in the field. They lead the way in Europe with 1,547 jobs, ahead of Germany (1,120) and France (763).

The data also reveals that London is one of the world’s leading cities for AI jobs creation. Ahead of New York, it is the biggest non-Asian city with 744 job postings, and 8th overall in the world.

Despite this, the bulk of vacancies in the UK are outside of London — which may come as a surprise, although the UK is fortunate to have a number of expanding tech hubs: from Manchester to Oxford and Cambridge. Of the 1,547 jobs, 803 of them are based outside of the capital. Cambridge (102 jobs), Bristol (62) and Manchester (47) are the best performing cities outside of London.

A recent PWC report projects that the AI sector will contribute up to $15.7 trillion to the global economy by 2030. This is reflect in the demand for AI jobs — as many as 7 million new jobs are projected to be created in the UK alone by 2037, for example.

These are the 10 most proportionally in-demand AI jobs in the UK:

1. Data Scientist, 9.06% of AI job listings required someone for this role

2. Software Engineer, 8.75%

3. Consultant, 6.01%

4. AI Researcher, 4.95%

5. Sales Engineer, 4.74%

6. AI/Machine Learning/Data Analyst, 4.43%

7. Machine Learning Engineer, 4.32%

8. Business Development, 2.85%

9. Intern, 2.74%

10. Product Manager, 2.74%
