Consulting & Tier 2 General Visa

Tier 2 General Visa/ Tier 2 General Visa Sponsorship / Working on a consulting basis on a Tier 2 General Visa

There's lots of information and miss-information regarding working on a Tier 2 General & Tier 2 Sponsorship. I hope this piece will provide some clarity on certain areas and even prompt you to consider options whether you are an IT professional yourself or a client/consultancy/agency.

Scenario's people may relate to:

  • On a temporary visa Tier 4 Student or Tier 5 YM and looking at options to work on projects longer term under a consultancy

  • Already sponsored on a Tier 2 General and assessing career options and to work on projects long term

  • From an agency/client perspective be looking at broadening horizons and utilising highly skilled talent globally under a service agreement where the requirement is outsourced to a consultancy

Consulting for Candidates

Many skilled professionals find working for a consultancy a great option:

  • Work on an array of different client facing assignments (increase exposure to more technologies and processes)

  • Receive great remuneration packages

  • Work under a known brand with other highly skilled professionals and tap into many networks and contacts

Consulting for Companies

Many clients may struggle to find top top talent (Data Science/Cyber Security) and often, the know how and experience required can be found offshore and outside of the EU. This is a great option where:

  • Companies do not have a sponsor license

  • Companies do not want to sponsor themselves/sponsor more people

  • Companies have short term – project based requirements (6-24 months)

  • As above, where there is a serious shortage of a certain skill area in the UK/EU.

Provided the agreement is service based with set deliverables and time bound, the consultant is able to work on a consulting basis under the direction and control of the consultancy.
